Basic disk and dynamic disk
Wiserecovery supports all hardware RAID and hard drive, camera card, SD card and Memory Cards, Memory stick etc.
The concept of basic disk and dynamic disk were introduced by Windows 2000 and were added to the Windows system as a tool of an administrator. A basic disk is different from a dynamic disk since they can be used in different operation systems. All versions of Windows and even DOS can support basic disk, while this is not the case for dynamic disk. It can merely be supported by Windows versions later than Window 2000, including Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Windows 2007, Windows vista and Windows 2008.
You can use all of file systems on either basic or dynamic disk, including FAT and NTFS. And you can change a basic into a dynamic disk without a reboot of the system. One thing you must know that this is not a bi-directional process. Once you have transformed a basic disk into a dynamic disk, you cannot transform it back unless you re-create the volume.
About dynamic disk
Generally speaking, dynamic disks can offer more management flexibility without the partition limitation of basic disks storage. Dynamic disks can contain an unlimited number of volumes, but they cannot contain partitions or logical drives. The Dynamic Disk doesn't simply format its hard drives in partitions but allows the recordable information to be stored over several different disks instead.
Volumes in dynamic disks can span several physical disks, or be striped across multiple disks for better performance (in striping, parts of the same file are physically located on multiple physical disk drives). Volumes in dynamic disks can also be mirrored or set up as a RAID 5 array. Dynamic volumes can even be confined to a single disk.
Wiserecovery supports five types of dynamic volumes: Simple Volume, Mirrored Volume, Spanned Volume, Striped Volume, RAID 5 Volume.
